Friday June 1, 1934
First time I ever started a diary. Let's see how long it lasts.
Had an English test on poetry. Think I flunked. Drove the car for a while. Went to the dentist and had another tooth filled.

Saturday June 2, 1934
Went to school and took trial regents in Geom. Came home and found a letter from Esther waiting for me.
Went to dentist. Have to have nerve removed. This evening answered Esther's letter.

Sunday June 3, 1934
Got up 10:30 and took a bath. Went to Patsy's. Went to bed at 12:00 midnight

Monday June 4, 1934
Received mark for trial regents, 64 1/2. Nothing much happened today.
Went to dentist again but he didn't start removing nerve yet. Drove car about five miles. Did math homework.

Tuesday June 5, 1934
Had another exam in English. Reviewed old regents in comprehensive agric.
Planted Gladiolas for Doctor Carissimo. Transplanted Peony and Privit for Mr. Rossi. Danced with Yolanda while Adeline played piano. Albie is learning how to dance.
Played handball. Albie and I against Billy & Louie.

Wednesday June 6, 1934
Worked on term report cards for Mr. Armstrong. Had first half of History final. Took another trial regents in geometry. Drove the car again today. Played handball with Alex.
Moved piano with pop and after that had some ice cream.
Today was pop's and mom's wedding anniversary.

Thursday June 7, 1934
Finished term report cards for Armstrong. Got detention in math for not doing homework. Had second half of History finals. Played handball again this evening. Alex and I against Albie and Eddie,
and what a shellacking we got.

Saturday June 9, 1934
Worked today delivering orders in a butcher shop. Got a dollar and a half. Quit work at nine o' clock and went to a party given by Joyce Lennon as a farewell to Ralph Rios. Got home at 3 o'clock in the morning.

Sunday June 10, 1934
Got up at 11:30. Stayed with Albie all day. I tried to get across 97 Street in three leaps. Hit Junior while running. Must have strained my right arm it hurt whenever I bent it. In the evening we danced in Albies garage. Didn't do my homework at all.

Monday June 11, 1934
Was in school for Ag. Eco. and then got a sick pass to come home. Went to see Doctor Carissimo about my arm. He said it was just a strain. Slept most of the day. This evening I mailed a birthday card to Esther. Her birthday is the 13th. Didn't do any homework tonight either. I'm in for a couple of days detention.

Tuesday June 12, 1934
Today is my birthday. I'm 18 years old now. I had a party this evening and had a pretty good crowd. We danced and played a few games and had ice cream and cake. I got quite a few presents. 2 ties, a sweater, a shirt and some handkerchiefs.

Thursday June 14, 1934
Had an Ag Club meeting today. Was put up for president but lost. Went to Louie Furgiuele's house this evening and then went with him to see the Commencement Excercises of Fordham Prep. Louie got an undergraduate award for the highest mark in German. Lost two bits on the Carnera-Baer fight.

Friday June 15, 1934
Got home from Louie Furgiuele's at 10 o'clock. Didn't begin school until the sixth period. Handed in my English book-report.
This evening went to a concert in which Albie played the piano. It was pretty good.

Saturday June 16, 1934
Was with Albie all day to-day while they worked in the front of his house. Mr. Rossi is going to extend the front of his house out to the building line.
This evening went to a revue & dance with Albie Louie Parlatto and a group of other people. It's the first time Louie and Albie danced on a dance floor.

Sunday June 17, 1934
Got up at 11:30. Went downtown with Albie and saw some of the fleet.
We boarded the U.S.S. McLeish, U.S.S McCormick and the U.S.S Lexington. The first two were small boats and were docked at Christopher Street. The last one was an airplane carrier and was docked at W. 50th St. The U.S.S Saratoga was alongside of the Lexington but we did not board her. This evening I studied for History b regents.

Monday June 18, 1934
Bob Friedel called for me this morning and we both went to school. I had a regents in History B. I think I got about an 80%. This evening I went to Albie's house and we danced for a while. Louie Parlatto, Victoria and Rosie were there too.

Tuesday June 19, 1934
Rained like blazes all day. Started reading a book. Louie Furgiuele and his mother and father came this evening. Louie took about four books home with him.

Wednesday June 20, 1934
Went to school today and had my last two regents, Math & Eco. I had a conflict.
I passed math with a fairly high mark but I'm doubtful about Eco.
Got a letter from Harry Beidler today. Tomorrow I leave for Reading. I'm taking the bus at 8:30.

Thursday June 21, 1934
Got a bus at 10:40 for Allentown. Had to wait in Allentown an hour before I got the bus for Reading. Arrived at Reading at 5:15. This evening Uncle Jimmy got married. Afterwards Uncle Jimmy, Uncle Benny, Aunt Betty, Aunt Jean and I went out and had some beer.

Friday June 22, 1934
Got up at 7 0'clock and staid around the house all morning playing the piano. In the afternoon I went to Uncle Benny's house and had supper there. After supper I went to the Embassy and saw "Little Miss Marker". They also showed the Carnera-Baer fight.

Saturday June 23, 1934
Came out to the farm his afternoon. Curt and George were home. Harry and Mrs. Beidler had got to Francis Sunday's funeral. He had drowned in the mill race. This evening I went swimming with Harry. Then we went to the mill. I talked with Laura about her trip to New York.

Sunday June 24, 1934
Milked and separated this morning. I didn't do much today as it was Sunday. Went to Host with George, Harry and Adams. Had ice-cream and soda. This afternoon went in swimming. This evening I milked and separated.

Monday June 25, 1934
Helped Curt milk and separate. Then went up in the garden and did some weeding. After that I helped Harry cock up hay. This afternoon Charley, Harry and I brought in three loads of hay. I was on the wagon loading. This evening went in swimming again.

Tuesday June 26, 1934
This morning I helped dust potatoes with lime. In the afternoon I helped cultivate corn on the other farm. Went swimming this evening and then went down to the mill for some candy and talked with Laura awhile. Came home and played the according while Harry played banjo.

Wednesday June 27, 1934
Milked and separated this morning. After breakfast helped put away a load of hay. The rest of the day I cultivated corn with Charley and Harry. This evening went in swimming down at the mill with Harry. Tried to fix a flat but the tube was shot. Played the accordian again.

Thrusday June 28, 1934
Helped Curt milk and seperate. Cultivated again with Harry and Charley all day. Went swimming in the dam this evening. Had some more music this evening.

Friday June 29, 1934
Helped Curt milk and separate. Then went out with Charley and Harry and cultivated for about an hour and a half. The rest of the day I helped bring in barley and rye to be threshed. I did the evening milking and separating alone and went swimming in the dam. Had company this evening so I played the accordian for them at their request.

Saturday June 30, 1934
Finished threshing this morning. This afternoon we started bailing straw. My job was to tie the bale wire. It sure was a dusty job. Did the milking and separating alone this evening. After supper I took a bath and then went to Host with Harry. They were having a hoe-down

Sunday July 1, 1934
Got up at 7:30 and milked and separated. After that I went down to the bungalow and played poker. I lost 36 cents in the morning but in the evening I won it back and 3 cents besides. Went swimming a little this afternoon. Then went riding for a while. Helped Curt milk and separate in the evening.

Monday July 2, 1934
Helped Curt milk and separate. Spent rest of day finishing baling straw. About 15 tons of straw was baled. Did the evening milking alone. After supper went in swimming in the dam and then went down to the mill and bought some candy. Got a letter from Anton today.

Tuesday July 3, 1934
Finished cultivating corn and cultivated the potatoe patch with Harry.

Wednesday July 4, 1934
Didn't do much work today as it was a holiday. Ground some feed in the morning and then had the rest of the day off. In the evening I went for a long ride with Lloyd, Maggie, Jenny and Laura. Some fun. I sat in the Rumble seat with Laura and got what I went after.

Thursday July 5, 1934
Today was kind of slack. Mixed some chicken and duck feed with Curt. And then did odd jobs about the house.

Friday July 6, 1934
Used scythe for first time today. Cleaned the roadside of weeds. This evening went into town with Curt, Harry and Adam and all got haircuts. After that went to the Duck and had some beer.

Saturday July 7, 1934
Cleaned up around the bungalows. I was driving the truck and darn near drove it off the bridge.

Sunday July 8, 1934
Milked this morning and Harry separated. Did nothing the rest of the day. In the evening played penny-ante and won 9 cents. Sent a postcard to Louie, Patsy, Albie and Mr. Armstrong.

Monday July 9, 1934
Milked and separated this morning and then helped Curt and Adam build and mend fence. In the afternoon went over to the other farm and helped Curt spray potatoes. After supper went down to the mill.

Tuesday July 10, 1934
This morning I sprayed potatoes. Near the end I put to much pressure in the pump and burst the seam. This afternoon I mowed grass. Went down to the mill this evening and then went for a short ride with Lloyd, Jenny and Laura.

Wednesday July 11, 1934
This morning Harry and I finished mowing the field we started yesterday. In the afternoon I chopped down sapling trees and cleaned up on the other farm with Curt and Adam. Harry, Charley and Mr. and Mrs. Beidler went to Reading this afternoon. This evening the boys went off and I stayed home alone.

Helped Curt milk and separate. The rest of the day we did nothing. In the afternoon all of the Beidler's went to the funeral of Mrs. Beidler's mother. Adam and I stayed home and did the work. In the evening I went down to the mill to see Laura.

Helped Curt milk and then separated. Today was another slack day. Helped bag 16 bags of rye for seeding. John Strickler was here today. I had the gloves on with him for a while. Built a bin for the rye in the hog pen. Went down to the mill again this evening. Got a letter from Louie F.

Saturday July 14, 1934
Milked and separated this morning. Did very little work during the day. In the afternoon mowed weeds along fences with scythe. Did evening milking and separating alone. After supper went to Stouchsburg to Host's Sunday School picnic. It was alright.

Sunday July 15, 1934
Did the morning milking and separating alone. Went down to the mill and bought some candy. Stayed down at the bungalow most of the day. Went swimming in the dam. Some campfire girls are on the other side of the creek. Took some of them for a ride in a canoe. One of them isn't so bad.

Monday July 16, 1934
Plowed today for the first time using a walking plow. In the afternoon rolled land awhile and then plowed some more. Went swimming in the dam and then went down to the mill for a while.

Tuesday July 17, 1934
Plowed and rolled today. After supper went swimming in the dam then came home and played the accordian for a while. Wrote a letter to Louie and Patsy.

Wednesday July 18, 1034
Plowed today. The going was tough because of rocks. I broke a double-tree. After supper went swimming in the dam then went down to the mill. Jody Stoudt came down and said somebody was at the house to see me. It was the campfire girls they wanted to hear Harry and I play. Had quite a crowd.

Thursday July 19, 1934
Got up a little late this morning. After breakfast I rolled land. In the afternoon went to the truck patch and picked beans. Helped Curt do the evening milking. After supper went swimming in the dam and then with Harry gave the campfire girls some music. Came home and wrote a letter to Esther.

Friday July 20, 1934
Started binding and shocking oats today. Finished a 20 acre field today. I did the evening work. After supper went swimming in the dam. Had fun ducking the campfire girls

Saturday July 21, 1934
Binding and shocking oats again. It was darn hot. The campfire girls watched awhile but then left to go home. After supper went down to the bungalow and had beer and played penny ante. Later we went to Bernville, Wernersville and Klopp's Store and had some fun. Came home at 2 in the morning

Sunday July 22, 1934
Got up at 9 o'clock this morning. Was down at the bungalows awhile and then went down to the mill. Had some beer there. Stayed home alone this evening as everybody went off.

Monday July 23, 1934
Finished binding and shocking oats today. Drove Buick touring for first time when I had to bring John and Paul Beidler to the other farm to help shock. After supper went down to the mill with Harry.

Tuesday July 24, 1934
Didn't do much today. Picked all beans in the garden. Cleaned out brooder house. Filled some bushel baskets with corn and did the evening work. After supper went swimming in the dam and then went down to the mill. Played the organ for a while.

Wednesday July 25, 1934
Went on the Berks County tour with Mr. & Mrs. Beidler, Curt and Harry. Visited five farms and a lime kiln. The object was to see how these farmers did their work and kept records. Rained, just as we got finished.

Thursday July 26, 1934
This morning shelled corn. I had to keep the baskets full. In the afternoon Curt, George and I mixed and ground feed. This evening went down to the mill

Friday July 27, 1934
Started threshing oats today. Threshed about 400 bushels and then it started to rain. Got back my pictures this evening and brought them down to the mill to show to Laura.

Saturday July 28, 1934
Unloaded the rest of the oats we threshed Friday. In the afternoon I clipped the lawn along the walks while Harry used the lawn mower. Washed the separator. After supper went to Host with Harry. They had a hoe-down and I accompanied Harry and Shorty on the organ

Was down at the bungalows this morning and played quoits. In the afternoon I went down to the mill. After supper I stayed home with Harry. Everybody else went off.

This morning I worked down at Lutz's. I helped with threshing. Had dinner there and then went to our own field to help with the threshing. Didn't finish till seven. Have one more field. If it don't rain we thresh tomorrow. So far it's over 900 bushels of oats. Went down to the mill after supper.

Wednesday August 1, 1934
Finished threshing the last field of oats this morning. Total of 1171 bu. In the afternoon started bailing. Baled one pile. After supper went down to the mill as usual.

Finished baling the straw. It rained slightly at intervals but not enough to stop working. Tomorrow we're going to bale Lutz's straw, if it don't rain. Went down to the mill after supper. Beatrice Miller drove me home then.

Didn't do much this morning. Turned the grindstone while Charlie sharpened the mower knives. Then Curt & I cleaned out the chicken house. I used the manure spreader. After lunch, Curt, George, Charlie and I went down to Lutz's and baled his straw. Had an early supper there.

Didn't do much this morning. In the afternoon Charlie & I mowed alfalfa. Will probably bring it in Monday. After supper went down to the bungalows and played cards. Got to bed at 2:30.

Helped Harry milk. Then went to Host with George and got the paper. In the afternoon went down to the mill alone in the evening went down with Harry. When I came home I wrote a letter to mom and one to Anton.

This morning George and I ground some oats then we went out and brought in a load of hay. In the afternoon we brought in 2 loads and left the rest lay for tomorrow as it was too dry. Harry, Charlie & I mowed a field of hay the rest of the afternoon.

Brought in the rest of the hay this morning. In the afternoon Harry and I mowed the field up on the hill. Now we're all done mowing.
Went down to the mill this evening but couldn't go swimming as the race was empty for cleaning.

Brought in the hay from the second field we cut. I pitched hay for the first time today. After supper went down to the mill to see Laura. She was in bed. She had been thrown off the roller when the team ran away and was bruised quite a bit

This morning Curt, Harry & I picked up rocks in one of the hay fields. In the afternoon we all went to Bigell's and baled his straw. It rained awhile but that didn't stop us. After supper Curt, George, Harry & I went to Host. Harry & I and another fellow played all the pieces we knew.

This morning mowed thistles and then did a little fishing with Curt. Caught 14 suckers. In the afternoon I harrowed and Charlie mowed. This evening we had a thunderstorm with plenty of lightning

Helped the boys work on the Ford truck awhile then Charlie and I cleaned the stable. Harry and I ground pig feed and some oats. After supper went down to the bungalows. They had a corn roast and two quarter barrels of beer. Came home at 3:30 A.M.

Rained all day so I slept all day. Did the evening work and went to bed early.

Worked all day on the Ford truck. It's getting to look like something now.

Today Charlie, Harry & I made a space under one of the hog-houses for shade for the hogs. We had to dig out about 10 inches of dirt. The Ford truck is in running condition now but not quite fixed. Went down to the mill and went in the water. The first time since Friday. The sun was out to-day.

This morning I sprayed potatoes. Near the end I put to much pressure in the pump and burst the seam. This afternoon I mowed grass. Went down to the mill this evening and then went for a short ride with Lloyd, Jenny and Laura.

This morning Harry and I finished mowing the field we started yesterday. In the afternoon I chopped down sapling trees and cleaned up on the other farm with Curt and Adam. Harry, Charley and Mr. and Mrs. Beidler went to Reading this afternoon. This evening the boys went off and I stayed home alone.

Thursday July 12, 1934
Helped Curt milk and separate. The rest of the day we did nothing. In the afternoon all of the Beidler's went to the funeral of Mrs. Beidler's mother. Adam and I stayed home and did the work. In the evening I went down to the mill to see Laura.

Friday July 13, 1934
Helped Curt milk and then separated. Today was another slack day. Helped bag 16 bags of rye for seeding. John Strickler was here today. I had the gloves on with him for a while. Built a bin for the rye in the hog pen. Went down to the mill again this evening. Got a letter from Louie F.

Saturday July 14, 1934
Milked and separated this morning. Did very little work during the day. In the afternoon mowed weeds along fences with scythe. Did evening milking and separating alone. After supper went to Stouchsburg to Host's Sunday School picnic. It was alright.

Sunday July 15, 1934
Did the morning milking and separating alone. Went down to the mill and bought some candy. Stayed down at the bungalow most of the day. Went swimming in the dam. Some campfire girls are on the other side of the creek. Took some of them for a ride in a canoe. One of them isn't so bad.

Monday July 16, 1934
Plowed today for the first time using a walking plow. In the afternoon rolled land awhile and then plowed some more. Went swimming in the dam and then went down to the mill for a while.

Tuesday July 17, 1934
Plowed and rolled today. After supper went swimming in the dam then came home and played the accordian for a while. Wrote a letter to Louie and Patsy.

Wednesday July 18, 1034
Plowed today. The going was tough because of rocks. I broke a double-tree. After supper went swimming in the dam then went down to the mill. Jody Stoudt came down and said somebody was at the house to see me. It was the campfire girls they wanted to hear Harry and I play. Had quite a crowd.

Thursday July 19, 1934
Got up a little late this morning. After breakfast I rolled land. In the afternoon went to the truck patch and picked beans. Helped Curt do the evening milking. After supper went swimming in the dam and then with Harry gave the campfire girls some music. Came home and wrote a letter to Esther.

Friday July 20, 1934
Started binding and shocking oats today. Finished a 20 acre field today. I did the evening work. After supper went swimming in the dam. Had fun ducking the campfire girls

Saturday July 21, 1934
Binding and shocking oats again. It was darn hot. The campfire girls watched awhile but then left to go home. After supper went down to the bungalow and had beer and played penny ante. Later we went to Bernville, Wernersville and Klopp's Store and had some fun. Came home at 2 in the morning

Sunday July 22, 1934
Got up at 9 o'clock this morning. Was down at the bungalows awhile and then went down to the mill. Had some beer there. Stayed home alone this evening as everybody went off.

Monday July 23, 1934
Finished binding and shocking oats today. Drove Buick touring for first time when I had to bring John and Paul Beidler to the other farm to help shock. After supper went down to the mill with Harry.

Tuesday July 24, 1934
Didn't do much today. Picked all beans in the garden. Cleaned out brooder house. Filled some bushel baskets with corn and did the evening work. After supper went swimming in the dam and then went down to the mill. Played the organ for a while.

Wednesday July 25, 1934
Went on the Berks County tour with Mr. & Mrs. Beidler, Curt and Harry. Visited five farms and a lime kiln. The object was to see how these farmers did their work and kept records. Rained, just as we got finished.

This morning shelled corn. I had to keep the baskets full. In the afternoon Curt, George and I mixed and ground feed. This evening went down to the mill

Friday July 27, 1934
Started threshing oats today. Threshed about 400 bushels and then it started to rain. Got back my pictures this evening and brought them down to the mill to show to Laura.

Saturday July 28, 1934
Unloaded the rest of the oats we threshed Friday. In the afternoon I clipped the lawn along the walks while Harry used the lawn mower. Washed the separator. After supper went to Host with Harry. They had a hoe-down and I accompanied Harry and Shorty on the organ

Was down at the bungalows this morning and played quoits. In the afternoon I went down to the mill. After supper I stayed home with Harry. Everybody else went off.

Monday July 30, 1934
This morning I worked down at Lutz's. I helped with threshing. Had dinner there and then went to our own field to help with the threshing. Didn't finish till seven. Have one more field. If it don't rain we thresh tomorrow. So far it's over 900 bushels of oats. Went down to the mill after supper.

Wednesday August 1, 1934
Finished threshing the last field of oats this morning. Total of 1171 bu. In the afternoon started bailing. Baled one pile. After supper went down to the mill as usual.

Thursday August 2, 1934
Finished baling the straw. It rained slightly at intervals but not enough to stop working. Tomorrow we're going to bale Lutz's straw, if it don't rain. Went down to the mill after supper. Beatrice Miller drove me home then.

Didn't do much this morning. Turned the grindstone while Charlie sharpened the mower knives. Then Curt & I cleaned out the chicken house. I used the manure spreader. After lunch, Curt, George, Charlie and I went down to Lutz's and baled his straw. Had an early supper there.

Didn't do much this morning. In the afternoon Charlie & I mowed alfalfa. Will probably bring it in Monday. After supper went down to the bungalows and played cards. Got to bed at 2:30.

Helped Harry milk. Then went to Host with George and got the paper. In the afternoon went down to the mill alone in the evening went down with Harry. When I came home I wrote a letter to mom and one to Anton.

This morning George and I ground some oats then we went out and brought in a load of hay. In the afternoon we brought in 2 loads and left the rest lay for tomorrow as it was too dry. Harry, Charlie & I mowed a field of hay the rest of the afternoon.

Brought in the rest of the hay this morning. In the afternoon Harry and I mowed the field up on the hill. Now we're all done mowing.
Went down to the mill this evening but couldn't go swimming as the race was empty for cleaning.

Brought in the hay from the second field we cut. I pitched hay for the first time today. After supper went down to the mill to see Laura. She was in bed. She had been thrown off the roller when the team ran away and was bruised quite a bit

This morning Curt, Harry & I picked up rocks in one of the hay fields. In the afternoon we all went to Bigell's and baled his straw. It rained awhile but that didn't stop us. After supper Curt, George, Harry & I went to Host. Harry & I and another fellow played all the pieces we knew.

This morning mowed thistles and then did a little fishing with Curt. Caught 14 suckers. In the afternoon I harrowed and Charlie mowed. This evening we had a thunderstorm with plenty of lightning

Helped the boys work on the Ford truck awhile then Charlie and I cleaned the stable. Harry and I ground pig feed and some oats. After supper went down to the bungalows. They had a corn roast and two quarter barrels of beer. Came home at 3:30 A.M.

Rained all day so I slept all day. Did the evening work and went to bed early.

Worked all day on the Ford truck. It's getting to look like something now.

Today Charlie, Harry & I made a space under one of the hog-houses for shade for the hogs. We had to dig out about 10 inches of dirt. The Ford truck is in running condition now but not quite fixed. Went down to the mill and went in the water. The first time since Friday. The sun was out to-day.
